New Zealand vs Bangladesh ODI Preview

Thursday’s third clash between New Zealand and Bangladesh will be a mere formality after the hosts took the series with a second win on Tuesday morning. With a game still to play, Devon Conway got his first ODI half-century to help the Kiwis beat Bangladesh by five wickets in Christchurch to clinch the three-match ODI series. Tom Latham, who was standing in as captain for the home side at Hagley Oval, scored his fifth ODI hundred despite a considerably improved Bangladesh outing from the first game. New Zealand took advantage of the visitors’ poor fielding to chase down the target with ten balls to spare.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun did the best they could in the circumstances, nearly taking the side to 200 before Mitchell Santner forced Rahim to fall in the 41st over. It seemed that Tamim Iqbal was unstoppable at times, but a moment of magic from James Neesham removed him after putting up a solid 78.

If Bangladesh can sort out some of their fielding lapses, we’re in for a fascinating day at the Oval on Thursday evening in the final game of this three match ODI series.

New Zealand v Bangladesh ODI Odds

The Black Caps are 11/14 to sweep the series, while Bangladesh are 11/2 to take a consolation victory in Christchurch.

New Zealand v Bangladesh ODI Betting Tips

The 1st Wicket Method seems like an interesting market considering the difference in intensity expected on Thursday. A bowled first wicket at 7/2 looks worth a look.

We’re also not opposed to the idea of Bangladesh winning the most sixes, which is priced at 3/1.

1st Wicket to be Bowled – 7/2

Mehidy Hasan bowled Henry Nicholls and Will Young in two successive orders on Tuesday, so there’s no reason to believe that, with Trent Boult in the New Zealand side, we won’t see the first wicket bowled. Especially on a slightly more relaxed day, this bet is not the most likely, but it’s close enough that if you’re willing to take a risk on a 7/2, you could stand to make a few quid.

Bangladesh to win match sixes – 3/1

Mushfiqur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan will be looking to build on what was not a bad performance against New Zealand in the last ODI. While a full punt at 11/2 on them to reverse the result of the last two matches seems a little bit foolhardy, there is definitely a case to be made that they will win the most sixes in Thursday evening’s third ODI.
